Burning Podcasts To A CD

Good news : it is possible to burn podcasts to CD! iTunes has built in CD burning software which will successfully burn your podcasts to CD, Windows Media Player also has a built in CD burning capability, other software like Nero or Easy Media Creator can also be used to burn podcasts to CD’s. Each of these programs functions slightly differently and so there are just a few things to remember depending upon which software you use.

One thing worth remembering whatever software you choose to use is that the CD has a limited amount of storage and the amount of audio you can burn on it will depend on which file format you use. If the device you want to play the CD in will play MP3 or WMA files you are only limited by the amount of storage space on the CD, if on the other hand you have to burn the disk as a standard audio CD (playable on any CD player like a bought music disk) you will be limited to 72 minutes of audio per CD.

Using Windows Media Player to burn podcasts to CD is a straightforward procedure. Open Media Player, then click on the “burn” tab and either select the files you wish to burn by selecting them from the drop down menu or drag and drop them into the burn list. Making sure you have selected Audio CD you then simply click on the start burn button and the disk will be burnt.

If you wish to burn MP3 or WMA files to fill your disk with Media Player change the setting to Data Disk instead of Audio CD before you click the start burn button.

To perform the same functions using iTunes requires a slightly different procedure. To create an audio CD you will first have to create a new playlist by selecting file then new playlist, or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+N. Now name the playlist and add the files, remembering a maximum of 72 minutes. If you click edit then preferences then advanced and click on the burning tab you can ensure your preferences are set to make an audio CD.

Select the playlist of podcasts you just created then click burn disk. Your disk will be created.

Burning a disk of MP3’s with iTunes is simple, just click on the radio button beside MP3 CD in the preferences before you press burn, this will produce a MP3 CD.

If you are using Nero or Easy Media Creator or another CD burning application use the burning wizard and remember to choose either Audio or Data CD depending upon whether you want to burn an audio or MP3 disk of your podcasts.
