 Wednesday’s lesson: Dictation |
|
|
| Today we picked up a text from French novelist Balzac ( 1799-1850 ) : “Le Père Goriot”. It is the story of Eugène de Rastignac, the character at the center of the action, a slightly idealistic and highly ambitious law student who lives in the same rundown boarding house in a seedy area of Paris as Goriot. This novel was written around 1834-1835. Just click below to listen to the dictation in French, and try to type what you hear. Good luck ! |

“Are you ready for some nightlife action while in France? The French people love to have fun as much as everyone else does. Just check out this neon sign that lights up the street at night. Give in to some midnight madness, thrill, and excitement inside the disco house. You will surely have the time of your life while there. Go with your friends. Or better yet, meet somebody special inside. You might just find a reason to go back to France year after year.” |

 Wednesday’s lesson: Dictation |

| Today a dictation that will make you more familiar with Maupassant, one of the fathers of the modern short story. A protege of Flaubert, Maupassant’s short stories are characterized by their economy of style and their efficient, effortless dénouement. He also wrote six short novels. A number of his stories often denote the futility of war and the innocent civilians who get crushed in it. Are you ready ? So let’s jump into Maupassant’s universe. |
