Today, let’s hear the sounds of French vowels. This three part lesson will give you examples of French words using those sounds. Let’s start with the “a” sound : avancer, date, sac, marque, avocat, pâte, attention, blatte, mille-pattes…

Your teacher’s tip

  • you can hear each french sound individually, by clicking on the first audio icon, on the left
  • the second audio icon, on the right, will let you hear all french words under the "examples" columns
  • each word is separated by a 5 second blank silence, so that you can repeat the word… or guess the following one
  • the column "written" shows different ways of written transcription for the sound. As you can see, there can be up to six different ways to write the same sound, which makes French language difficult to write… even for French people !
